SALPINGO-OOPHORECTOMY

In 1983 I started my studies in physical therapy and was given a book on latin medical terminology. The term salpingo-oophor-ectomy sang on my tongue and stuck with me. It mean to remove the uterus and ovaries. As an 18 year old it just sounded like a fun and fancy word. Now, as a woman with two grown children, having know so many women with difficulties bearing children and battling disease, I hear this word very differently and have great reverence for the power and gift of the female reproductive system.
